What’s in a name? For birds… it’s complicated… complacent… or just racist. This week we take on the problematic bird names that have created quite the commotion in the birding community. The push to change or remove honorifics (you know when a bird is named after some white dude) is not a new issue – but one that has received much more attention in light of the recent Black Lives Matter protests. We were going to make this one segment of a banter episode, but it turns out there is A LOT to say about this issue. So sit back, take a sharpie to your favorite bird guide, and let the woke wash over you.
